The Asian Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ASSMO) was founded on December 1, 2014, to bring together Asian researchers and practitioners in the field of structural and multidisciplinary optimization (SMO).
The main objective of ASSMO is to organize the biennial meeting called Asian Congress of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ACSMO) to stimulate research and encourage practical applications of optimization methods in various aspects of SMO.
Following several meetings between two of three countries, China, Japan and Korea, the first China-Japan-Korea Joint Symposium on Optimization of Structural and Mechanical Systems (CJK-OSM1) was held in Xi’an in 1999. After the CJK-OSM2 in Busan in 2002, CJK-OSMs were held biennially until the CJK-OSM8 in Gyeongju in 2014, where the organizing committee decided to establish an Asian society to attract more researches and engineers in the field of SMO.
Structural optimization has become an indispensable tool in various fields of engineering; therefore, exchange of ideas and results of SMO among researchers and engineers in Asia will have great contribution to strengthening potential ability and competitiveness of Asian engineering research and products.
Anyone who participated in at least one of the last two congresses can be a full-member of ASSMO.
Currently, the the full-members mainly belong to the three countries, China, Japan and Korea; however, we hope more people from other regions of Asia will join the society to strengthen the research and implementation of SMO in Asian region.
